The trick is to give it Expanded memory (using Emm386 or QEMM), and limit the amount of it it can use by either playing with config.fp settings, or with the EMS driver settings. Just give it between 2 and 4 megs of EMS and it should purr. Extended versions of FP for DOS were quite happy with lots of XMS, and they took all the memory they could get, and it really sped things up when the app started running - due to extensive internal cashing etc, but it increased the load time, because FPD had to manage this memory first, initialize it, calculate various buffer sizes etc. I've noticed some load delay when I've added the second 8M, but then it never choked, no matter how big the tables (ok, this was with 2.6 extended).
