I'm posting this in chatter because it's not a FoxPro problem.

I was trying to reduce the amount of data stored under my User Name in Documents and Settings to make it faster to backup. I eliminated many MB of files in the TEMP directory including some directories related to Adobe Acrobat Reader.

But this still left a bunch in Temporary Internet Files, so I went to IE Explorer-Tools-Internet Options-General-Delete Files and clicked OK. I did not check "Delete all offline content" because I'm under the impression that it would delete all of my cookies. I closed IE.

I was surpised to see that Explorer properties still showed 6.5 MB in Temp Internet Files. Yet I could see only 1K cookies in the details, even if I looked in the randomly named subdirectories.

I went to the command prompt and found that if I CD'ed into the subdirectories some of them (the later ones), I could see (DIR) many GIF and other files. These were assorted files related to web sites. I boldly deleted these files from the command prompt with no bad effects.

This still left one 4.5 MB file (INDEX.DAT) in .\Content.IE5. I copied it to my D: drive but I could not delete the file on C: (being used by a task). It does not show in Explorer though it does not have the hidden or system attribute and I have selected "Show hidden files and folders."

If I search for INDEX.DAT I can see the file in Content.IE5 but it shows a size of 32KB. The copy shows a size of 4,608KB.

This all seem middling strange to me. Can anyone shed some light?

Any way to reduce the size of INDEX.DAT in Content.IE5?

You know, I really wish that operating systems would play by a consistent set or rules.
