I would like to get a clarification regarding installation of the MSDE. My understanding is that when you insert the SQL Server CD to install, it offers a Server or Workstation installation. If you're running a workstation and not a server, it won't let you install the Server version. And that if you install the Workstation ( or Desktop ) version, that you are essentially installing the MSDE.

Is this not correct and if not, what are the facts regarding this? If we install the Desktop version of SQL Server from the SQL Server CD and this is not the MSDE, then how is it different from the MSDE?
