>>I'll echo that. Creighton (a #12) just beat Florida (#5) in double OT. Another year of upsets, it looks like. I didn't realize that Steve Fisher coached the Aztecs (in fact all I knew was the nickname< bg >). Was he the coach of Michigan the year we beat them twice during the regular season only to have them beat us in the Final Four?
>
>Ah, you bring up painful memories, my friend < s >. Yes, Fisher was the head coach (technically the "interim head coach") of the 1989 Wolverines, who won the national title that year including a win over the "Flying Illini" in the national semi-finals. Actually, Illinois had lost to Michigan twice in the regular season, and we Illinois fans were telling ourselves that the third time would be the charm. Of course it didn't work out that way.
Then maybe it wasn't in the Final Four. I recall that one year, I think afterwards, we had beaten Michigan twice in the regular season (this was before the Big 10 tourney), the last time being in Ann Arbor and it was a blowout. Of course, my wife says my memory is failing.< g >
>BTW I still have a bottle of champagne in my refrigerator from the evening of that semi-final game thirteen years ago. We were going to celebrate with it when Illinois won the national championship but couldn't bring ourselves to open it after the loss to Michigan. So there it sits, still waiting for that national championship...
Be nice to open it this year.:-)
