hello,
I just downloaded the Sample application and I was looking at the data structures and noticed that you used cid c(6) for the primary key in tables like clients, projects, contacts, ... and the integer iid for the key in users, ID, ...
I use cid c(6) in all my tables now because it seems a few years ago, most folks (I don't know the %) were recommending character ID fields (and Foxfire had the habit of automatically summing up any numeric fields in the reports). Now it seeems that the tide is turning towards integer PK's. I know that Rick in WWC is going with integer PK.
Just a couple of questions:
1.) Do you haved any comments concerning the use of characters ID's vs Integer ID's?
2.) I know the codebook uses lv_ and rv_ terminology for views. In mere mortals are local and remote views the primary vehicles for querying and updating data? (I use views exclusively in my desktop apps, but I am now using SPT for data querying on web apps and I am thinking of using SPT for desktop querying also -- but, of course, most of my desktop framework is based on using views)
Thanks,
Kevin
