How could you miss it with full page ads (mostly by the proponents) in the newspaper every day?

>If you want my opinion, these two bozo's (Hewlett and Packard) represent everything stupid about business. Here are two snotty rich kids (they're not kids any more though, though, one of them did get the prestigous position as an intern at HP, ha) that are possibly single handedly destroying a large compaines chances of being the best they can be without the foggiest clue as to what they're doing.

To paraphrase the movie: "That's bold talk for young man in sunshades" < vbg >

I don't own any HP stock directly (there may be some in my 401K) so I can't vote on the issue. If I could, it would be a tough call. I've been an HP test equipment user for about 30 years and have always found their technology and quality second to none. In my opinion, Compaq has expertise in maufacturing and marketing personal computers but is not quite in the same league as HP in the overall electronics industry.

I guess it all comes down to the usual risk/benefit analysis: do the risks involved in merging with a not-so-stable personal computer company offset the potential benefits of easily restructuring your existing PC business. HP has to ask itself if merging with Compaq supports their core business goals. This is really one of those "you bet your company" decisions.

Like I said, I can't vote but we'll know the results tomorrow. Regards
