For anyone interested, TextPad allows you to define syntax coloring for VFP. Actually, it uses a file (.syn) in which you can define reserved words and create a document class which you can assign the .prg extension. They offer a base VFP syntax file for free download too. I slightly modified it for VFP 7...

> There are many, many editors that allow you to control parameters such as tab controls and syntax highlighting. You may not be able to specify VFP syntax highlighting, usually languages such as C++ or C. However, many editors offer a number of other qualities that make them more desirable than the VFP editor. However, it looks like we're stuck with it. By the way, it does seem to improve with each version. I'm hoping that when I upgrade to 7.0, the editor will be improved again.

>>>Hello All,
>>> Is there a way to replace the editor that is used for editing code for controls and methods when working on a form in the designer environment? I know you can use tedit = ***** in the config.fpw, but that only seems to launch your favourite editor when you issue the "MODIFY COMMAND" from the command window. Thanks for any suggestions.

>>The problem with replacing the editor - even if it were possible - is that features like syntax highlighting are no longer available. Also, the way VFP handles tabs (for indents): you can specify how wide you want the tab to appear visually.
