>>>If capitalism was so good, communists would never have stood a chance.

>>Uhh.. Psstt.. Except for some US university campuses they're gone. <g>

>Keep those guys and press them just a little so they don't lose the edge. With voices of dissent absent, capitalism will turn really nasty (which is probably the subject of this thread).

Will? Surely you jest.... If the Enron debacle isn't a 'nasty' I don't know what the word means. If the internal memos describing Microsoft's behavior isn't an example of nasty what is? These rogue companies set the 'bar', putting competitors who operate legally at a competitive disadvantage.

Here is Dell's version of "The News "
http://news.com.com/2100-1001-271006.html?legacy=cnet
"Citing slow demand for the operating system on client PCs over the last several quarters, a Dell spokesman said the PC maker chose to stop preinstalling Red Hat Linux on desktop and notebook models."

Then, from MS internal memos, we learn "The Truth"
http://www.reuters.com/news_article.jhtml?type=technologynews&StoryID=713590
"Citing internal Microsoft memos, the nine states also said that in 2000 and 2001 Microsoft pressured Dell Computer Corp. DELL.O into dropping plans to offer the open-source Linux operating system on some machines it sells.

An attorney representing Microsoft responded by accusing the dissenting states of trying use the remedy hearings to retry the case and level new, unfounded accusations against the company. "

>>>So yes, they have built a new man, and what a creature it was - just like the old one, just more the same.

>>Yup. While capitalism is very very far from perfect it does one thing that will always cause it to prevail - it recognizes a more accurate view of man's nature. Greedy and terminally self-centered.

And it is the Law which is supposed to protect the citizen from the greedy and self-centered. But, how can the law (DOJ) do that when they join forces with convicted law breakers and then fight for them against the citizens they have agrieved? When the people citizens elect to represent them betray their trust and work against the best interests of the citizens then who remains to champion justice?

>And so, basically, does the idea of self-management socialism. I figure the good way would be the self-managed capitalism, where the majority of ownership would be spread across multiple owners, just enough that the workforce present in most of the companies would have the controlling pack of stock. The capital wouldn't be that faceless and uncaring, far away from those who work for it. The guys would know they're working for themselves, and you may see some miracles there, after a few years.

Employee-owned businesses are getting more common. Here in Lincoln they are centered around the restuarant business and some smaller niches.
