I can't reproduce this. I tried the following code:

SET SAFETY OFF
CREATE TABLE foo (myfld1 C(10),myfld2 N(7,2),myfld3 C(10))
INDEX ON myfld1+STR(myfld2)+myfld3 TAG foo
CLOSE ALL
ALTER TABLE foo ALTER COLUMN myfld2 N(3)

If you have concrete code that can repro the problem or tell me what I am missing in this code, it would help. Thanks!
