Provantage believe me that it'll easily save you that much in manhours on your first help file creation. It provides a WYSYWIG edit/test environment for the help file. What you work with in there editor looks fundamentally like the help file itself.
Also note that the next version of VFP will be using the new HTML help engine. ForHelp also comes in a suite version like RoboHelp which gives you the ability to generate both .HLP and .HTMLHelp files from the same input. That will not be possible using native RTF editing in Word.
I think both products have 30 day money back guarantees. Once you've used a tool like these you won't even consider dealing with RTF codes inside Word.
