I encountered a similar problem with one of my .SCX files. I was able to fix it by changing the contents of memo fields based on what I found in a similar .SCX file. Maybe it's time for someone to develop a utility. I'll be happy to try to repair your corrupted file if you send it to me. If I'm successful, I'll post a description of the techniques that I used.
