Oh I know. In fact, the best way might be done with C++, and all it does is sit around and wait to process the Windows shutdown message.

Of course, if it's Win2K, a really off-the-wall idea might be to check the last access date/time of the sound file associated with the shut down event. Of course, if someone doesn't want a sound associated with that event, that idea is out the "Window"< bg > Besides, I don't for certain know if Windows actually modifies that value, but it would seem a good assumption.
