I have a friend who is doing a little contract work for us. I may see what he thinks about this.

I may just write an entry into a couple of Registry entries. One for last startup and a refreshed value, say every 10-15 minutes (granularity at this level is ok), and then query them when I startup/login. That will give me what I want but I want a completely low profile here.
