I don't feel that would necessarily be true. I know that when I was new to VFP (not very long ago), I would have welcomed conferences with a specific topic. I actually would have been more intimidated by getting involved in a general discussion with people I didn't know. I still think the current conference formats are good, possibly just adding conference times for scheduled topics.
For any 'newbie' in VFP, any topic sessions may be more like a classroom than a round table. They may actually feel more comfortable participating in 'class' than a general discussion with a bunch of pros and gurus like yourselves. :-)
