When doing a SELECT on a SQL/Server 7 database operating on an Internet server (NT4; IIS 4) we get the following error message:

"80040e21 Property Not Supported by ODBC Provider"

Sometimes (but not always) if you simply repeat the query, it works OK.

Microsoft knowledge base refers too this error when doing an INSERT ("The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data"). But we aren't doing that - just a simple SELECT.

Knowledge base also refers to "An arithmetic overflow can occur ... if the total exceeds 2,147,483,647 (32 bit signed value). This too sounds a little unlikely as the queries are not particularly complex.

The problem ONLY occurs over the Internet; it NEVER occurs using the exact same software installation over the LAN.

Anyone any ideas how to cure this?
