I was reminded of the prior thread on Republican and free trade as I watched a story on 60 Minutes tonight.

A huge textile mill in Lawrence Ma. burned to the ground (not sure if it burned up or burned down, but it did burn to the ground) back in 1995, being one of the few remaining in the area (where probably 100 mills existed at one time).
The owner called an employee meeting the next day and told them they'd be paid full salary for the next 30 days. 30 days later he made the same announcement and added that the mill would be rbuilt right there. The rebiulding, of course, was totally against the trend of moving mills to Mexico or overseas, and most business folk couldn't believe that he'd do such a stupid thing.

Using the $300 million insurance + more dough from banks he did rebuild. Now he's on the brink of bankruptcy, but still bound and determined to make the thing work.

This is the way businesses and business men/women are supposed to act. No hiding behind the wall of ONLY profitability. No lapse (or absence) of conscience. No take the insurance and run to retirement in Hawaii or wherever.
If more of the so-called "businessmen" of the world were REAL businessmen with REAL character like this guy, the U.S. and Canada and several other countries would be much stronger than they are today!

That company makes the brand name "Polartec®" fabrics for all outdoor activities. If you have a choice, buy that brand if only to show support for someone who has the right values.
