>Another statement form the same president, “Our customers are the only thing important to us”! I have found that companies that do not treat employees as well as customers tend to fail. There should be a balance but many managers do not understand any of this.

Yes, employees do matter the most. Imagine how well a disgruntled or unhappy employee is going to represent your product. Employees that are well cared for take even better care of their customers.

>The job place today is a mixed up ball of excretion. As for myself I will never again be a supervisor or manager – there are more Indians than Chiefs in this world. TLA's and slogans take the place of reality. Alright Team Members, lets all run off the cliff together because we do not have a business plan. .COM Inc.

It sure is a "mixed up ball of excretion"! And some of the biggest companies are now being feared as practising Enron/Andersen styled reporting practises. And I do mean biggies here, if I heard the 'analysts' correctly (they still speak in code, so it's hard to be sure).
Lots of companies tout that they care deeply about their customers. But their actions and policies betray otherwise. They seem to practise "if you tell a big enough lie, and tell it often enough..." and they truly seem to believe it to be "proper" to do so.
"TEAM" stuff was all the rage 5+ years ago. I had a contract at a company that (acted like they) swallowed the practise hook, line and sinker. Came time for peer reviews and all in a 'team' of 9 singled out one person as poor performer, poor "team player" etc. (except himself, of course). When a big promotion came up 4 month later (my contract was done by then) guess who got the promotion? Yep, the unanimously lousy worker! I wonder how the other staff felt after that???

I look from afar at the debate regarding Compaq/HP merger. I saw a small bit of what I think is called the "HP culture" when I had the same contract mentioned above because the company I worked at was located in a HP building and had agreed to adopt some of HPs policies relating to that edifice. So there was a very cheap pre-start breakfast, a free mid-morning snack with all kinds of goodies, a fantastic variety of subsidized lunch offerings, free afternoon snacks again, all in a building built into the woods and having maintained paths for wandering around enjoying the woodpeckers, orioles, etc. Not a bad "cultural experience" I can say. SUre these things cost money. But it seems to me that trading these off in the name of efficiency is to lose sight of the whole principle behind them in the first place - they RE efficient, though not in a direct dollars and cents way.

The "bottom line" matters, but it ain't the ONLY thing.
