Mike;

To be honest I think a college degree is important for two reasons.

1. The discipline involved in attending an institution of higher education will expose you to an experience you might otherwise never have. I believe you should be serious about your education. You will learn more on your own than from the average teacher. You have to learn how to learn – that is something that you will find invaluable in life. What you receive from education depends upon you and how you approach it. Teachers are too limited in his/her abilities. That should not impede you from searching out new things and looking at the world through your own eyes.

2. It is in my opinion important to have a college degree if you wish to be a success in many areas of our society. It increases your chances for employment in many cases a college degree is a requirement. Play the odds and get an education. It looks good on your resume.

If you are smart you learn something in spite of the system of education we have. Rather than complain about education and do nothing I prefer to do my own research on any given topic and have my own conclusion. I will not change the system and will not retreat into a corner. Use the damn system to your advantage.

Lots of people go to college to party and we have lots of colleges with such reputations. Such schools are ideal for those that are dedicated to study – you can blow the socks off of the grading system. You will receive from the education system what you put into it. If you sit back and expect teachers to teach you are in for a shock. Teachers all too often are “figure heads” and there to take roll. They can sometimes do that correctly. Other times teachers play with your mind. There are all kinds of teachers. You have to learn how to teach yourself.
