For your future reference, always, that is
always, delete the index before you try any method of recreating it. Never use Reindex on an index that is giving errors as reindex uses the index header to determine what tags to build and if there are errors when using the index then it is likely the index header is bad.
Even Index on without killing the index file first is not dependable for a bad index as it marks the old tag as obsolete and creates a new one IN THE SAME file. If the file is corrupt, and it likely is when there are errors, then there is no guarantee that the index will use the correct tag within itself.
Bad index = kill the cdx and create a new one
