Your description intrigued me so I downloaded the eval version and did some poking around in the docs.

Yes the server initiates the alert but it is the Malert32.Exe program running on the PC that actually receives the server message and displays the alert.

If you can't find an alternative, you could create one yourself using the MS Winsock control. See Message#585842 for an example of the listener piece.
