How long will it take before those behind you will get mad? That it the length of time between the so-called 'sophisticated' man and the barbarisn. Try it out and you will admit I am right. Why don't those behind you just sit patiently? Answer: They can't and they choose not to be patient.

and because those behind the first car will not be the one hit by the last car in the cross-traffic trying to beat the red light. I will never proceed through an intersection without checking for traffic from the left and reight regardless of light color, one way streets, etc. I know of too many people hurt or killed by wrong way drivers.
