>My two cents. I for one will buy the book or read it where ever it is published.

>To Ed - at first I agreed with many of your points. I really agree that there is a large group of UT members that just take and don't give back. But this idea that 85% of the questions asked on grids are from people to lazy to do any research is a little over. Many of us (like me) don't walk on water and grids can be especially complex. I avoid them except for display. But what really made me disagree was when I checked the other NG's that I belong too. Delphi and C#. In both of those groups the questions on grids is high. It reminds me of the Linux NG's where everyday there are questions on partitioning the HD to support Linux. I'm not lazy. In fact I think I have to work harder than others just to keep up. Most of the information on grids is on the net - but like a dictionary you have to know how to spell the word before you can read the answer to it's meaning.

I SWAGged the %age, but it is the same questions, perhaps with a minor change in wording or focus, but essentially the same - how do I add an (x) to a column, how can I add behavior to a header, how can I highlight a row, how can I select >1 row, what to do to preserve my formatting when the data source (inevitably a view or cursor) is done, why can't I use an array as a grid source, searching the grid interactively, why is the grid so slow with a filter, why does my report/form record source screw up if the focus is on a grid, how do I add a behavior to a specific column when the (y) event issues. Nearly all can be answered with custom grid/column/control classes, or by using a control other than a grid. The same question is often asked several times in one day...

At some point, the programmer ought to learn to use resources like books and FAQs, and not try to make a living off someone else's ability and knowledge, usually without even saying thanks for all the fish! Vlad's grid knowledge is a fairly valuable resource, and given that he wants to put time into creating a piece of tremendously useful IP, I'd advise him to create a kick-ass tool, so useful that even the spnges will fork over some cash for legitimately owning a copy instead of writing what could be a super book, but that without the tool, hasn't given the sponge sector a good reason to buy it. And should an upcoming version of VFP move away from the current, non-standard control and UI grid, it's a good bet that the kick-ass tool would be able to adapt to the replacement easier than a new book could be done.

>Just for information I give credit to all authors that I use in my code.

So do I - as well as the people whose ideas lie behind what I do.

>*code download from UT #123456 Author Evan Delay
>*purpose to add dates to grids

>With regard to making money - I'm sure any of us are going to make much money writing code or books about code.
