Private works as far as I can see. Even Local.

The only way I see that private/local would fail is when you do a

Report form..... NOWAIT

in that case, the private/local may be out of scope by the time you use it in the report.

Another alternative, should you use a cursor, is to have a field in the cursor that contains the value you are after
