I'm not exactly sure I'm following what you are saying .. but .. report variables are calculated for each and every DETAIL line. If you are trying to SUM the other variable you created .. it is adding it again for EACH and EVERY detail line. If what you want to do is have one variable SUM a field for the group footer and another variable SUM the field for the REPORT SUMMARY at the end .. then make sure the expression is exactly the same in the two variables. The only thing that should change is the RESET AT value .. one is the Group .. the other is End of Report.

If this doesn't help, please try to elaborate on what your variables are doing.
