The reason for being able to control multiple comm ports is simply because I wish to be able to send data to 10s, maybe 100s of serial interfaces.

Bascially, I wish to be able to control multiple card readers, which use the serial port to send and receive small packets of data. The amount of data transfer is tiny, but I need to have the ability to have 100s of card readers controlled by the same PC.
