Hi Bob,

I appreciate your help. I wrote the VFP client just to see for myself what working with a VFP Front End to an Enterprise Back End was like. I have done this before using Perl/HTML in a web setting and found the VFP Client application very simular to the Perl DBI (e.g. both are very strong in handling strings) which is important for SPT. I found I really liked VFP in this roll, much more so than perl/HTML.

I though I might submit an artical to VFUG for possible inclusion in thier monthly newletter. The article would be about using VFP as a Front End to a Postgre Back End. As part of the article I would make the VFP Client Application avalable to everyone as a download from my web site. To make the VFP client as easy as possible to use, I would provide the postgres database that would allow anyone using the client to connect and run the demo/test. This would be a win/win situation giving me and my web site some exposure while allow other to also see how efficient VFP is as a Front End Client. Also this would provide some VFP sample code which as you know can be hard to come by.

I do not want to submit the article until I'm absolutely sure everything is working. I though I had everything working until I made the post to UT and found out that nobody outside the local network can connect to my database/table.

I've configure the router port 7 (e.g. echo/ping) to forward to my Linux Box. Also, I disabled the firewall on my Linux Box which was really only protecting from within the local network, since the router handle security from the WAN. I can find no reason why someone should not be able to ping me and get a reply. However, I am going to look into some issue as time permits like SSL tunneling, routing configuration, firewall on the Linux Machine, Permission on both the Linux Machine and Postgres, etc. Also, I will spend some time with the Linux Doc. and Postgres Doc. I will check back from time to time as I'm switching between getting some tax returns finished, cleaning up/finishing/debuging may primary application, etc.

Also, could the connection issue have anything to do with Win2K or XP talking to a Linux Box? I'm using windows NT 4.0/server/workstation/W9X/Linux for my local network, and tried to ping yesterday form a remote XP box.

Otherwise, I've been able to connect with the client from about every other computer in my local network, authenticating. The minimum group level in my local network is a domain user.

I'll be checking back from time to time.
