There is help here so you can ask away.

Actually, having both is required. The server software is just that, server software. Domino needs to have the client installed and you use it to configure the server.

If you want to design and create Domino applications, you need to also have Domino Designer. This works under the same Domino technology umbrella for connectivity and it is used to create forms/views/agents/etc. to be hosted on your Domino server.
