They are stored in the Name and Address Book (Names.nsf). They are documents that are used to connect to various servers. When you attempt to connect to a server, the first place Notes searches is the Connection documents to see how to connect to the specified server. If it finds one that matches that server, it uses that information.

Otherwise, the client attempts to search the network to find the server. More often than not, it can't find it and displays a message saying the specified server can not be found.
