I guess a next step would be to try running win32s manually and see what happens.

Also, do these machines have win32 installed for any other apps? That causes trouble sometimes, as you've likely heard.

(BTW, these network loads are going obsolete - we dumped our last (subnet) one when they got pushed into Win 95 - if you heaven't already hinted at this to clients.)
