I just wanted to run this by everyone and see what their opinions where on the subject.

I have submitted for several contracts around the country and have come to find out that the brokers (consulting firms) only want to deal with local candidates no matter how qualified you are for the position.

This scenario seems to have come about very rapidly in the last several months.

I have been traveling all over the USA on contracts for the past 10 years and this is the first time have been turned down without looking at my resume because I am out of state. I full-time RV and relocation is no issue for me or my family. We technically don't have a home state so I don't know what the big deal is.

One firm tried to say that since it is such a short term contract, they wouldn't consider out of towners. I basically gave him the statement above and it left him dumbfounded and he really couldn't come up with a reason for only looking at local candidates.

I'm tempted to fake an address in the area of the job just to get them to look at the resume....

What are others experiences and/or opinions on this very rapid turn of events?
