You have to think of the impact of such action. Here's the disavantage:
If you only do that, the I tag, that'll be good as for the first reply. But, then, on any upcoming replies, you will loose track of the hierarchy.
Also, the greater sign to quote text is as per the BR lines the member did. We can't force to do it at specific interval as not all users are working with the same form length, so this will become useless. Also, doing that will force the wrapping to be done and upcoming messages will then be wrapped manually instead of being wrapped automatically.
Adding the I tag to identif what you write is making it difficult for most of us to read your replies. I've seen people doing that occasionally and it really doesn't help at all.
