Tim,
We are developing two applications for the handheld. Both use a two layer approach - the handheld layer, which runs on Compaq iPaqs (the OS is 2002) using Embedded Visual Tools, which is a subset of VB. The desktop layer runs under W2000 and is written in FVP 7. We needed two layers because some tasks just aren't practical on a small screen, like maintaining master file information, which is better done at the desktop. The same SQL 2000 data source is used by both layers. The handheld access to the data is a combination of RDO and merge replication. Our handhelds are operating in a harsh manufacturing environment with critical demands for uptime, so we chose to mix the two data access methods for redundancy in case the live network connection is unavailable. (We are using wireless 802.11b for the handheld communication to SQL Server)The desktop layer uses remote views in a foxpro dbc.
