Hi Cindy,

Thanks for the advice. I usually depend on a router for protection against viruses. The only ports I have open are 25 SMPT, 80 HTTP, and 110 POP3. I'm really kind of responsible for getting the virus by having my guard down. I downloaded/installed an application using installshield's single click feature. In order to allow installshield to run the activeX controls necessary to perform the installation, I had to set Internet Explorer's security setting to low. I forgot to reset IE security to mediun after the installation. Both times I got the virus I was browsing the internet with IE security set to low, so I assume the virus got in throught port 80, and IE executed it. Also, IIS and outlook express might have executed it. I really don't know. I just know that in the middle of browsing my hard drive started doing alot of something.

I have avoided using an anitvirus. It adds alot of overhead to a network, because everything being pulled/pushed across the network has to be scanned. I have seen several posts about slow network perfromance, and the advise given is to check for antivirus software.

I will give the antivirus you suggested a look. I still have not identified the virus I got. If anyone knows, I would at least like to know it name.
