Call me Mr. Nit-picker < g >, but I was under the impression tha thte big thing at MITS prior to the Altair computer was transponders and tracking devices for model rockets. At least, that's always the stuff I heard in the various Forrest Mims columns in PE and so forth. Either way, they went from cool stuff to even cooler stuff. One of my college profs had a small semi-museum going in his office with an Altair, an Imsai, and a SOL.

>First, Bill Gates and Paul Allen did not found the company in New Mexico. The company, MITS (as I recall it stood for Micro Intrumentation Telemetry Systems) was already in existence. It was founded by a fellow named Ed Roberts, who now lives in Georgia. The company initially produced radio controllers for flying model airplanes. They invented the Altair.
