I was able to reproduce your problem by checking "Fetch Data In Background" in DSN options. W/o "Fetch Data In Background" checked the code runs fine. After that I found mskb #Q269881 'PRB: Problems with Visual FoxPro Driver "Fetch Data In Background" Option'.
Anyway, uncheck that option and your problem should go away.
