That's what they make Legal trays for. I've worked with lasers that support up to 11"x17" cut sheet, and on larger iron, systems that cut paper to size. If you need a mix of legal and letter output, there are plenty of inexpensive dual-bin lasers on the market today, and multi-bin carriers that can handle an even larger number of bins of varying size.

The only reason for a DMP in general is the need for continuous pre=printed forms or multipart output. Don't try to justify doing things on the cheap this way.
