In regards to your questions, I think each framework is different. Some are more 'behind the scenes' and some have great wizards that speed the process up. I've found that I can push out an app in less than half the time using Visual Fox Express. It has a tutorial you can download that takes you through creating two separate complete apps step-by-step, a cd class presentation available, formal classes available onsite or at their location (my last employer invested in those classes and they really were great), a yearly conference, as well as great on-line support via their forum (which is one of the best I have seen-developers are typically on it all the time and offer peer-level support as well as the F1 Tech support provided). It didn't slow my apps down any, but of course it can be slower as any app in VFP can be slower depending on the coding you do as a developer. For example, remote views can slow an app down if they pull too much data over the wire, etc. I thought it was VERY easy to learn. There is also a book available from www.hentzenwerk.com on creating VFP apps with VFE that is terrific. I recommend you look at their website at www.f1tech.com. It is an object-oriented framework designed using n-tier principles which makes it easier for porting apps down the road to multi-tier design. I looked at quite a few and chose Visual Fox Express. I recommend you download trial-ware of the different frameworks, visit their support sites, and talk to developers using each framework before you choose.
