Import the xls to a temporary cursor using append from. The cursor should have two EXTRA columns of type "date" which will remain empty after append.

Replace the values in the extra columns with char values converted to date.

Append from the temporary cursor to the final table

The extra columns should have the same name as the date columns in the final table.
