Status Report – April 11, 2002

I think I’m gonna give up on the whole unpacking thing… <g> Caught up on my emails and document reading from the week in training. Spent most of the week working on the “Lead Program Manager” portion of my title – driving the specifications of some new stuff for Visual Studio – however, some fun community stuff happened too.


1. I’ve begun meeting and emailing with the various subsidiaries so that the community efforts that we’re starting can be shared worldwide. This week I worked mainly with the Latin America group (check out http://www.ayudadotnet.net for one example of a cool Spanish community site)



2. I started gathering metrics on how many people are online in various newsgroups, web sites, etc. I’ll be meeting with the various managers to review the numbers and to bump them up where necessary. More VB team members continue to go online – and one of our program managers is going to be speaking at a local VB.NET user group soon..



3. I personally participated in this past week’s Consuming Web Services in VB.NET – my thanks to all those who attended and helped out. The transcript should be up soon.



For those of you who will be at VSLive in Chicago on the 15th and 16th, I have to apologize that I’ll miss you. Some things came up here that preclude my traveling those days. :(



One more thing – we’ve been hearing from people that more small samples that can be copy and pasted into your code would be great. I’d love to hear from you about what types of samples you think would be helpful. Just reply to the newsgroup/discussion and let me know.
