Because I was curious, I copied out the "Where is Ken Levy?" thread down to the first "MORE" button, and saved it to a TXT file. Then I deleted all the quoted material and saved it again. The result? 28KB was reduced to 17KB.
I've seen threads where the difference would be much more dramatic.
From my point of view I hate seeing all that quoted material. It makes it harder to scroll through the thread and it really bugs me when I print it out and get twice as many pages as I really need.
Why not eliminate the AutoQuote option and replace it with a QUOTE button which would copy only the fresh material in the message being replyed to?
You could still quote the relevant text but it wouldn't happen unless you felt that you needed it.
There would also be savings in bandwidth and data storage.
The Motley Fool forums don't have autoquote and no one seems to miss it.
A small pet peeve.
