It's pretty well agreed that the "Indians" were the first (human) owners. Before they came over the Asian-N.A. ice bridge some 10,000 to 20,000 years ago, there was only the megafauna here. (And the microfauna, etc.)
Their claims to land here are probably some of the simplest and cleanest any where in the world.
