If you are looking for a rock solid way to send faxes over a network you can't beat the Castelle Fax Server. A little pricey at just over $1,000 for a single line unit, it just plain works. It is a "box" with a NIC and faxmodem built in. The client software license is for 250 users, I think. My experience with the unit has been great. Plug it in, install the software on the server, then a client on each PC and your ready to go. They also have an API if you need to auto fax stuff from your program. We auto send purchase orders from our application and there have been no problems for the year it has been in place. The box may seem expensive but one box can serve a lot of users. I installed a larger version for a document management company. (2 lines, they make them with 4 phone lines for really big volume and they can be stacked) They loved it. Replaced about seven fax machines with it. As for WinFax across the network. Forget it. WinFax is great only for the PC it's installed on.

I have tried this before in a Win98 environment with bad results as the pcs continually failed to connect to the fax server (the only pc with an outside line). Should my experiences using Win2K be any better?
