Since I hadn't gotten a response, I sort of let the thread drop.

The problem, I discovered, was that I was attempting to place a file on a site that was behind a fire wall. I wasn't aware that I had to connect to it in passive mode.

Once I did that, all was well.

I got some help from another thread that you contributed to that referenced how to modify the afore mentioned FTP class to provide the ability to use it to connect in passive mode.
