We have a distributed application that is used in a lot of places as well, and have run into this thing.
The printable area is a function of the printer driver used for the report. By selecting 'Use Whole Page', you are saying that you will decide exactly where on the page things will print. In this case, if you specify something that is outside the printable area of the printer driver used to print, that portion of your report will be cut off.

If you select 'Use Printable Area', then you are specifying where you want things to go on your report relative to the printable area of the page. In this case, you are guaranteed to print within the printable area on that driver, but when you move to a printer that doesn't have the same printable area (such a bubble jet or inkjet) then you may still lose part of your report.

We usually just write reports using the HP Laserjet II driver, as that is fairly standard, but you can still have problems with other printer drivers that way. I would say that what you are doing is probably a very safe way to do it.

>My application is used in several places with many different printers. So I always strip the printer info out of my .FRX files before compiling into an Executable. However, I am still a bit confused by the 'Use printable area' setting in the print setup of each report. This seems to have a definite effect on reports. Generally, I select 'Use Whole Page' and make sure my info does not attempt to print within 1/4 inch of the margins. I would prefer to use 'Use printable area', but is this specific to the printer I'm developing with, and can it cause conflicts with other printers out there?? Does anybody have an opinion on this matter. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
