Thanks for the feedback. A rep from a local ACCPAC provider is dropping in today to discuss their product. I've gotten about 50-50 response regarding ACCPAC. Most think of SBT. I don't know how much they are the same. Since the primary developer working on our business software insisted on writing in FPW and pasting the programs on top of VFP runtime, it might all work fabulously. Who knows. By the time I finish a rewrite in VFP I might have another solution.

>I have a client that runs SBT...and I dislike it intensely. The source code that is included is the product of a series of half-assed conversions from all the way back to dos 2.5. It's pretty horrific to try to work with. Updates consistantly overwrite any customization you may have done, and the database design is a mess. I would be ashamed to sell a product like that.

>I have another client that runs Mas90 from Sage/Best software. I am not a big fan of it, but I do like it better than SBT. It has a module called 'Visual Integrator' that allows you to import/export data via text files or ODBC (doesn't seem to like the fox ODBC driver, however). It's pretty extensive, allowing you to define your own file layouts.

>Mas90 also allows you to add user defined fields to most tables, as well as letting you do a lot of customization of input forms and reports. Overall, it beats the pants off SBT, both for the user and developer...but I still think I could do it better, if only I had the time <s>.

>The main problem I had with Mas90 was a lack of documentation. The data dictionary very often uses the field name as the field description, and there is essentially no documentation for Visual Integrator. Sage tech support is almost as expensive as they are clueless on that module, but there are some very knowledgable people that hang out on their SageTalk forum.

>Mas90 is also very very picky about the network it lives on...things have to be squeaky clean, or you end up with data corruption.

>About a year ago, I looked at the fox version of Visual Accountmate. It also was made up of converted 2.5 code, so I really didn't look much closer. Things may have changed since then though.
