Hiya John!

>I've actually found some mean VFP bugs in my time but (dare I admit it!) I no longer report them. I was extremely proud to report 2 bugs in the dark ages; the first was the semicolon at the end of a comment tag in a FP2.x screen causing weird bugs, the second was the SEEK function failing completely if SET NEAR is ON but the sought string is longer than the indexed field...

I'll report them if I think no one else has. You've been on the betas. Usually by the time I arrive Tamar has already reported over 200 *gd&rvvvfTG* so that kind of takes the wind out of my sals. <g>

Well, it is sound advise though probably not what you wanted to hear. <g>

>The latest fun is that if certain class libraries of mine are left "read only" by VSS, building an app that includes them causes VFP to disappear without trace. Cool.

I have gotten a couple of those too. Still, from everything I see the product is still more stable than at any time in its history. Can it be made better? You bet. Will it? I think so. Will it ever be completely bug free? Probably not.

>Does any of this matter? Not really. All of it can be worked around and my software works well except at one customer- I mean liability- staffed by the Keystone Cops and infrastructure that could probably be patented it's so original.

*chuckle*

I think most can be worked around. Of course, that means future versions will have to work with the workaround so I guess that means the bugs need to stay. <g>

>One piece of advice for those experiencing instability: since we put our PCs, network and servers on solid UPS we hardly ever see PC crashes. Worth every cent IMHO. Oh, and don't play Age of Kings on a Dell 7500 after you've used VFP6, you may lose all your scx files. It's fine with a nice new Dell 8100, though.

Well taken advice. Sometimes it is a hardware problem and having good, solid equipment is always the best long term route.
Best,
