Well, you might also try switching between 16-bit and higher. Depending on the amount of Video RAM, a higher color-depth may force you to use a lower resolution. BTW, the UT Help claims the UT was designed for 1024x768, but it works decently at 800x600; I do have to scroll sometimes.
