>Did they do it with your excelent Web Connection Software?
Absolutely. It's simply amazing what VFP can do and how quickly you can get it done.
>At what stage (no. of hits) will the server start to get slow. My site is running on a pentium 200mmx at my ISP.
>I suppose you have your own server computer running
It depends on what your server requests look like. The longer each request
takes, the more CPU it uses up and the fewer requests you process even with
multiple simultaneous instances.
The Surplus Site runs at 30% CPU load with between 130-200,000 VFP backend
hits a day on a Quad PPro 200. Average request time is around .18 seconds
and we can comfortable run 6 Web COnnection instances on the site. That
box can handle a load of about 400 - 450,000 hits a day.
The server farm that I'm setting up now will allow *unlimited* load simply
by adding new machines to a pool of servers that are fully self-contained
and can be turned out of the pool without interrupting site operation.
Think of it as a mainframe built out of VFP components {s}...
