Hi Bob Lee,

Good thinking. VFP makes an outstanding front-end client to just about any back-end database server that provides an ODBC driver. To the extent the back-end server provides an ODBC driver, there is already a generic way to talk to the back-end server via ODBC and SQL 92 standards. I think it would be possible to build a generic base class/form that would make it easy to connect to any back-end server and handle data processing like insert/delete/update data. The scope of such a project would be broad and would requiure more resources than I alone have. However, I would be happy to participate in some kind of a joint effort. If a commitment were made to build a standard base class, how do you see it. It could be a VFP community effort organized along the lines of open source, or it could be an effort to develope a marketable product. I personally see it as open source where we could take what we have started and ask for comment/suggestion from the VFP community about further developement. Being able to show prospective clients a clear migration/upsize strategy with lots of choices would cetainly make the client/customer more comfortable in choosing VFP 7 as an acceptable platform for their applications.

Another consideration is this may already be incorporated into one or more frameworks currently offered, or it may be incorportated into one or more of the frameworks in the near future.

I think I'll stick with postgres form now. This would allow me to avoid re-working my web site. Beside, I'm still learning new things about it.
