Colin,

Others have told you where to go... to find the list of new/changed features, but they haven't answered other parts of your question, so I'll add some:

1) While it is generally compatible with VFP6, some differences that have stymied a few are:
a) The LOCAL statement now requires a comma after each name, erroring if not there. Prior versions were tolerant of absent commas.
b) The MENUs are INcompatible ONCE YOU USE THE MENU DESIGNER under VFP7.
c) The .DBCs are fully compatible if you DO NOT use the DBC-events that are part of VFP7. Even here, though, the .DBC-events can be turned ON/OFF, and once set OFF the .DBC is again compatible with VFP6.
d) A correction to some specific SQL JOIN code *can* give different results between VFP6/VFP7. However, the README suggested that these were exceptional circumstances.
e) There were other differences that people reported. Search here for the word "compendium" to see a list of possible bugs reported here.

Whatever you do, make sure you install SP1 (must be downloaded).

Performance-wise, I haven't seen much difference myself, but the stuff I've been working on since VFP7 came out is not yet into production. On the other hand, I can't recollect much in the way of problems in that regard being mentioned here, save the good old virus scan software hurting badly in some cases.

Intellisense is a really good thing (has a few bothersome quirks) once you get used to it. It did take me considerable patience (and I have as much as a de-certified doctor).

Cheers

>What are the major advances over VFP6? Is it totally backwards compatible with VFP6. Will I notice any difference in speed of execution? Any comments would be valued.
